В середине 19 в. для Севастополя настали тяжелые времена. Мало того, что
правительство практически не оказывало никакой помощи опорному боевому
пункту России в Крыму, не поставляя ни продовольствия, ни боеприпасов,
ни даже шанцевого инструмента, так еще и его сиятельный трус, князь
Меншиков, несмотря на возражения обеспокоенного Корнилова, вывел из
города практически все наземные войска. Севастополь остался на произвол
судьбы - с незащищенной Северной стороной и едва начавшей застраиваться
Южной. Оставшиеся в Севастополе считали себя смертниками, ежечасно
получая донесения о наступлении от Евпатории громадной союзнической
армии. Корнилов и его соратники, оставленные на защиту Северной, уже
простились с друзьями, понимая, что гибель неизбежна...
И вдруг армия союзников вопреки всем законам логики и военного
искусства, дружно промаршировала мимо обреченных редутов и принялась
строить укрепления для затяжной осады Южной. Что же спасло Севастополь в
это страшное время? Что позволило практически незащищенному, брошенному
армией и царем городу, за считанные недели превратиться в неприступное
укрепление, под стенами которого за год сложили головы тысячи врагов?
Почему враги сглупили и не взяли город сходу?
А все дело в том, что шпионы союзников не в меру переусердствовали и
скопировали для главнокомандующих самые лучшие, новейшие карты
укреплений Севастополя, на которых значилось мощное, оснащенное лучшими
орудиями, Северное укрепление! Тогда как в реальности, благодаря усердию
бюрократов и казнокрадов, на этом месте до сих пор ничего не было, кроме
старых редутов...
Вот и получилось, что от неминуемой гибели Севастополь спасли его же
враги, тогда как наши защитники были практически оставлены на произвол
судьбы...
